Celebrating Success: ‘Ahotau Tohi Receives the David Beattie Award, Class of 2016

Dilworth School is proud to announce that ‘Ahotau Tohi, a member of the class of 2016, has been awarded the prestigious David Beattie Award. Established in 1981 to honour the appointment of Dilworth Old Boy Sir David Beattie as Governor General of New Zealand, this award recognizes exceptional achievements and contributions of Dilworth Old Boys in furthering their education.

‘Ahotau's journey to this prestigious award is marked by his dedication to academic excellence and passion for the science of food product development. After completing his Bachelor of Science majoring in Food Science at Massey University in Palmerston North, ‘Ahotau has embarked on a new chapter in his academic and professional career by commencing postgraduate study in a Masters of Food Technology.

During his academic journey, Ahotau distinguished himself as a promising scholar with a keen interest in the field of food science. His commitment to excellence was further demonstrated through his summer internship at Fonterra's Research and Development Centre, where he gained valuable insights and hands-on experience in the industry.

With the support of the David Beattie Award, ‘Ahotau aims to further his studies. He has recently been awarded a Fonterra Research and Development Scholarship that includes mentorship and support for his Masters project study.  He hopes to gain entry into the Fonterra Graduate Technical Programme. This 18-month programme will provide him with invaluable opportunities to work on projects at Fonterra plants across New Zealand, engage in a winter course, undertake a research project, participate in an international placement, and secure a guaranteed first role.

‘Ahotau's dedication to his field and his ambition to make a meaningful impact in the science of food product development truly embody the spirit of the David Beattie Award.
