Harrison Dudley-Rode, Head Prefect in 2018, was awarded the prestigious David Beattie award at Founders’ Day this year. This award, established in 1981 during Dilworth's 75th Jubilee, commemorates the appointment of Sir David Beattie, a notable Dilworth Old Boy, as Governor General of New Zealand. The award is a testament to the commitment of the Dilworth Trust Board to support the educational endeavours of our alumni.
Harrison has demonstrated exceptional dedication to his academic and professional pursuits. Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Sport, Exercise, and Health at AUT, Harrison specializes in exercise physiology and strength and conditioning. His research focuses on the effects of carbohydrate ingestion on the durability of moderate-to-heavy intensity transitions during prolonged exercise—an area with significant implications for exercise physiologists and endurance sport coaches.
What sets Harrison apart is not only his academic excellence but also his extensive practical experience in the field. A current world championship-level Ironman triathlete, Harrison has immersed himself in the world of high-performance sport. His work experience with athletes at Moana Pasifika Super Rugby reflects his passion for optimizing athletic performance.
However, the path to success in this field is not without its challenges. Harrison, like many aspiring professionals, faces the daunting task of balancing study, training, and work commitments. Often, valuable experience comes at the cost of financial stability. The David Beattie Scholarship provides crucial support, enabling Harrison to focus on his studies and practical endeavours without the burden of financial constraints.
Looking ahead, Harrison's ambitions extend beyond academia. He aims to position himself as a leading candidate for opportunities in performance physiology, particularly after the 2024 Olympics. His dedication to his craft and unwavering commitment to excellence make him a deserving recipient of a David Beattie Award.
As Dilworth School continues to nurture the talents and ambitions of its old boys, we take pride in celebrating Harrison Dudley-Rode's achievements. His journey is a testament to the values of diligence, perseverance, and community that define the Dilworth experience.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Harrison and wish him continued success in his endeavours.
